Bearcat Buddies Ambassador rECAP
As a Bearcat Buddies Ambassador, I’ve had the opportunity to serve both as a tutor and a leader within one of the university’s largest service programs. Bearcat Buddies partners with inner-city schools to provide consistent, one-on-one tutoring support for students who need it most. Through my continued involvement, I’ve been able to help recruit and engage over 300 student volunteers, expanding our reach and ensuring more Cincinnati students receive the academic encouragement they deserve.
Many students feel like they wouldn't be the best candidate to be a tutor or haven't tutored before, but it's been an amazing to hear from them months down the road about how they love this experience.
This experience has shown me that being a Global Citizen Scholar isn’t always about going far, but it’s about showing up with intention where you are. I’ve learned to lead with empathy, communicate across difference, and advocate for educational equity within my own city. Working with students from underserved communities has reminded me that systemic change begins with relationships starting by building trust, offering consistency, and making learning feel possible again.
Serving as an ambassador has helped me develop both my leadership and my sense of responsibility to others. It’s reinforced my belief that education should be a right, not a privilege and that creating access starts with all of us. With this experience, I hope to further utilize it with other educational endeavors down the road.
Below is a picture of the setup of where an ambassador and I recruited students on Mainstreet. It was around the start of the school year- so it was hot!
